About:

Charles H. Barnett, III has twenty-seven years of experience specializing in civil litigation. He is one of a handful of lawyers in West Tennessee that is certified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Tennessee Commission on Continuing Legal Education and Specialization and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. In addition, he is listed as a Rule 31 Mediator by the Tennessee Supreme Court and is a Court listed Mediator for the U.S. District Court, Western District of Tennessee. Mr. Barnett has litigation experience in a wide variety of areas, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury, products liability, premises liability, workers' compensation, employment discrimination, professional liability, eminent domain, and commercial litigation. Mr. Barnett has been given Martindale-Hubbell's highest peer review rating of AV and has been deemed, by peer review process, a "Super Lawyer of the Mid-South", and selected as a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society consisting of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.

Mr. Barnett is a native of Jackson, Tennessee, where he graduated from Jackson High School in 1964. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Memphis in 1969 and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Memphis School of Law in 1975 where he graduated second in his class.

He was a member of the University of Memphis Law Review where he authored three articles. These articles include: "Real Estate - Mechanics' and Materialmen's Liens in Tennessee," 5 Mem. L. Rev. 359 (Spring 1975); "Constitutional Law Tennessee, Nuisance Statute Declared Unconstitutional," 4 Mem. L. Rev. 619 (Spring 1974); and "Taxation - Mutual Funds be Valued at Redemption Price," 4 Mem. L. Rev. 184 (Fall 1973).

Mr. Barnett is a member of the Jackson-Madison County Bar Association (President, 1990); Tennessee and American Bar Associations; Defense Research Institute; Tennessee Defense Lawyers Association; Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association (Associate Member); and The Association of Trial Lawyers of America (Associate Member). He is a graduate of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and recipient of the Jackson-Madison County Bar Association Pro Bono Award, 1989. He currently serves as General Counsel to the Health, Education and Housing Facilities Board of the City of Jackson.

Mr. Barnett resides in Jackson, Tennessee, with his wife Elizabeth, who is a medical technologist, and his three children. His interests include sailing, sail boat racing, the study of the natural world and spending time with his family and friends.
