Biography
Robert V. (Bob) Redding is a native Mississippian but has spent most of the last 50 years in West Tennessee, having practiced in Memphis, Selmer, and Jackson for over four decades. He is married to Helen Alford Redding, Director of Music at the First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, an accomplished, retired, high school choral director. He has three children and eight grandchildren. An addicted fisherman, he spends any free time chasing the fish of our area, as well as the elusive trout found (or often not) in the White River in Arkansas.
After a multifaceted career, primarily in litigation and appellate practice, he is concentrating on mediation and arbitration work, which he has done since 1987. His broad experience as a litigator has exposed him to many areas of law: personal injury, professional negligence (medical, legal, engineering, accounting), governmental liability and civil rights, construction, insurance coverage, and education law. He has also served as a local school board attorney, and as County Attorney. He continues to serve selected clients in many of these areas.
Bob was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 1974 and is also admitted to the federal court in the Western District of Tennessee. He served as Law Clerk to the Hon. William H.D. Fones, Justice of the Tennessee Supreme Court in 1974. He received his undergraduate degree with honors from Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College) in 1968, and thereafter did graduate work in International Relations at Duke University, pursuing an M.A. degree. He then became the Director of Franchising for Africa and the Middle East for Holiday Inns but returned to Duke for a law degree conferred in 1974.
He is a member of the Madison County, and Tennessee bar associations, as well as the Tennessee Defense Lawyers. He has served as a Judge on Tennessee's Court of the Judiciary, the disciplinary body of the State for its Judges. He has been a frequent lecturer at continuing legal education programs. He co-authored a paper in 2006 for the International Society of Human Factors and Ergonomics, dealing with their professionals as expert witnesses in the federal court system, presented at their annual meeting.
